Hi my name is Suzann and I\’m new to this community. I lost my sweet beagle Mandy Tuesday afternoon (10/17/23) and my heart is broken. She was my best friend for 10 awesome years. She was the sweetest dog I\’ve ever had. I miss her terribly and I will never forget her.

Friday was a beautiful day. We cuddled. We ate fries. Got dressed up for family pictures. Actually laid in our own bed. And finished the day off be cleaning out a mostly empty peanut butter jar. He was definitely sent off in style. Saturday we said goodbye. Iā€™m still waiting for that relief that everyone keeps talking about. All I can think of right now is how lonely my office is without him. Iā€™m sure it gets easier. Just not today.

Dianne, I questioned how I would get through my loss, and very unexpectedly, ended up taking care of a friend’s cat for three months. I can tell you that was exactly what it took to help me, even though I wasn’t “ready” for a new friend (so I thought). Maybe you can visit a shelter to visit with pets who would love some company, not to adopt them yet, but to remind you of the many loving lives who will enjoy your time and attention,, But it has only been four days, and Dianne, geez, you hurt. Princess is such a part of your life and always will be, and life without her will be so much different. But she enjoyed the long, loving time you shared, and it’s on us to honor our beloveds by remembering the many gifts they gave us. What a shame our pets are only ‘on loan’ to us, but, we will all pass on from here, and want those left behind to be grateful and happy for the time we had together. I know, really know, how horrible you feel and how hard this is. I, and we in our community, feel the depth of pain you are feeling, and I want you to know, you can think of the good, fun, funny and silly times, and find some comfort there. Our next group meeting is October 20th. I hope to see you there. And, please read the October newsletter for the link.     I am so grateful to now be a part of the Faithful Friends team as a Spiritual Grief Counselor. I have gone through pet loss myself, so I know the pain and memories that come up when our pets pass on. This image is me holding my dear Annie, who is now gone a number of years. She is still in my heart. I think of her every day and smile every day.

I thought he was a little puppy. I got out of my truck and then he stood up and there he was a huge doberman.I couldn’t believe how beautiful he was through all the dirt and ticks. My husband was worried that he was going to bite me. But I could tell by the way his little nub of a tail wagging and the beautiful smile on his face. I had found my new best friend. But my daughter fell in love with him. We took him home and got a good look at him. I then realized how much he had been hurt. I told him that he had found the wrong family. We had no money to speak of for food, much less another dog. The top of his head had been caved in, he had some injury to the inside of his mouth and 4 broken rib from what I see. I spent two hours sewing up his head. None of the vets I called returned my calls except one who said he wouldn’t help because we had no money. He told me to take him to the pound. I knew that they would kill him. I did what I could and I was successful. In 2011 my Sammers Anthony passed away from congestive heart failure at age of 16. I miss him so very much.

My friend’s dog had the litter, so as soon as they were old enough, she invited over to see the puppies. She said I could hold one and spotted Shey. She was the smallest of the bunch and so cute. So we sat down and talked for a while, my friend holding a crying pup and me holding Shey who immdediately fell asleep in my hand. She told she had never seen a puppy choose someone that early before, that was my dog and she wouldn’t give her to anyone else. That’s the day I named her Shey.

    Because Shey was my first dog ever, my friend helped me get her house broken before she came home but I went visited just about everyday. Like every relationship, we had our furry ups difficulties – Shey learning to be a companion and me learning to be good dog mom.

    We drove truck over the road together for a while, so Shey had been in all lower 48 states and Canada. And when a blizzard shuts down the freeway and you’re sitting still for hours there’s nothing better than jumping out of the truck to go have snow fights in the median. Shey loved to have “snow fights” with me. She loved to lick the cinnamon off the donuts and leave them in box on the dashboard. She wouldn’t bite them, just lick off all the cinnamon! She was also fiercely protective and so gentle at the same time.

    The vets she saw over the years have all told me she is not a typical husky. She’s very laid back and quiet. She hardly ever barked unless I got her worked up and she was telling me stories. She loved her stuffed animals and would actually take very good care of them. There were a few that she would sleep with (her monkey and her elephant).

But with these issues I’m worried that his abilite to hold jobs may be difficult. My question is . Are there any places where he can do volunteer work so he can get his foot in the door to prove to himself and others that he can do this type of responsiblity? We live in Bristol pa. And are trying to find a local place for him to do volunteer work after school and weekends where he can help or assist with the care of animals.
