Suzanne posted an update Please pray for Kaylanee, she’s just recently started peeing outside the litter box litter box at least 2x that I found yesterday and once that I’m aware of this morning. She’s pooping in the litter box. I called vet and tech said to monitor her for any other behavioral changes, eating, lethargy, drinking, etc., I do have appointment for Thursday June 18 and will call before that if needed. My PTSD , from loosing all my 4 babies between March 28-January 26, is starting to kick in and my emotions are all over the place right now. It feels like a repeat of last December, the week before I was leaving for vacation, my 92 year old mother fell, my friend’s husband died the same day, suddenly and I lost my Freyja, unexpectedly on December 17. At least this time it’s only animal -and car issues but I’m
Not sure how much more I’m able to handle.

Berni posted an update Annie update: my sweet gentle soul is gone. I took her for the endoscopy on Tuesday thinking we may finally get to the bottom of her diarrhea problem. Two hours after I dropped her off at the vet, my phone rang. “There’s been a complication.” They had just started the procedure and hadn’t reached the area to get tissue samples when the probe punctured her bowel. The tissue was thin and more deteriorated than expected. Prognosis for repair was very poor. Only one other option. I requested they take the samples they hadn’t gotten to so I could know what caused the issue. They opened her and found multiple other tears and deterioration along the organs which might have ruptured and gone septic at some point. I brought her home so that Andy could see and sniff her before I took her for cremation. On Monday night she made multiple trips to the litter box which had become normal behavior for her and on the last trip she left a large puddle of very foul smelling diarrhea on the bathroom floor, it unmistakably smelled of blood. I can only imagine that her bowel must have been so badly damaged for this to have gone so wrong. Today would have been her second gotcha day.

Berni posted an update Annie update: her urine culture came back positive for E. Coli, not an extreme amount but enough to need an antibiotic. The main finding on the GI panel was an extremely low B-12 level. I’ll need to give her B-12 injections for about a month. I’m also keeping her on probiotics. After tossing almost a whole (expensive) box of Purina ProPlan FortiFlora due to expiration a few months ago I decided to try it.one more time. To my shock and awe she’s actually eating her food with it added, unlike last time when she practically starved herself rather than eat it. I swear her current meals are more powder than food at this point - prebiotic, probiotic, dental powder😅! If none of that puts the brakes on the diarrhea then I’ll have to consider the endoscopy. I’m still trying to wrap my head around how her labs didn’t detect the low B-12 level before, and that it could be what’s causing the chronic diarrhea, but I guess that’s better than dealing with the “C” word. The vet also said that there’s always the possibility of the benign liver nodule developing into something more at some point but for now it’s not a major problem. So I’m just waiting to get the prescriptions to start the “getting a pill into Annie” rodeo.

Suzanne posted an update Kaylanee’s ultrasound with the internal medicine doctor went well. She did well and thankfully was cooperative. Shes’s definitely a much better patient than I am. I was a nervous wreck all morning waiting for the vet to call me, so I’d be able to go pick her up. While I may not have the results of the ultrasound, until Friday, possibly sooner, it depends on how many ultrasounds he did today and how many reports he then has to write up to send to individual vets, I’m feeling a lot less stressed, as she’s back home with me and acting her usual friendly self. I will update everyone on the results, when I hear from my vet.

Hi there, I took Annie for her visit today. They did some blood tests and a more localized ultrasound to get a better look at the liver mass. They found that the mass had multiple small cysts and that the aspirate was a clear fluid which is consistent with a benign biliary cystadenoma and that it was an incidental finding and not believed to be the cause of the chronic diarrhea. They also said these kinds of masses can grow slowly over time and may eventually cause clinical signs like vomiting or loss of appetite by compressing the adjacent structures like the stomach & gallbladder. If it were to grow significantly larger, they might consider surgical removal at some point in the future, but they don’t believe that the liver mass itself has anything to do with the chronic diarrhea so basically I’m waiting on the results from the bloodwork and a GI panel for what the next steps would be. Depending on what they find they mentioned that options might include endoscopic or surgical intestinal biopsies, or possibly removal of the mass to prevent further complications. I’ll let you know what they find after I get the results back.

Bernadette, I’m sorry to hear of the loss of your sister and your pets. My name is Bernadette too. My older sister and I moved to Florida after she retired in 2005 and we came here with our six cats and several birds. Over the years I lost my pets one by one. 2 1/2 years ago, my sister passed away. she was the last of my family, and at that time I only had the last of my original kitties, Minnie, still with me. 10 months later, she passed away and I was completely alone and in tears pretty much every day. After four months of not knowing what to do with myself I adopted a senior kitty who pretty much saved me. I didn’t want a young cat because at 68 years old. I was terrified of having to leave any pets behind if something happened to me. And then this past Labor Day, the universe dropped a four month old kitten on my driveway, and what could I do? I spend a good chunk of each day thinking about what I can do to find someone to care for my babies if something were to happen to me. Your sister knew she had someone she could count on in you to take care of her little ones and that’s really a gift. I don’t think it ever gets easier, and for me I don’t know if I’ll ever be whole again, but I take one day at a time. If you can, you should try and join in on the Faithful Friends zoom meeting on the third Thursday of each month. I found Toni when I was in a dark place and it helps to have people to talk and cry with. I will tell you things will get better because I know better than that but just take small steps, one day at a time. Hope to see you at the meeting.
